Beverley, here's the information Ester posted yesterday.

Hi All,

Text Writer, a writing app that supplements the on-screen keyboard with a top
row of keys with functions for "(forward) delete", "paste", "cut", "copy",
"select", "end", "home", "up", "down", "left", and "right", is free today. This
is a simple app that's been mentioned before on this list when it went free
several months ago. Because apps are sandboxed, you can only use the extended
keyboard within the app, but you can send the results to mail, or save previous
notes, then copy and paste them into other apps. This is mainly of interest to
users without access to Siri. This is a universal app for both iPad and iPhone
or iPod Touch, but you'll find you can access more keys if you orient your
device in landscape mode -- specifically the "forward delete" and "copy" keys.

You may want to use the iOS 5 feature of labeling keys for the "up" and "down"
keys. The "left" and "right" keys for moving the insertion point are
recognizable, but will be announced as "left pointing triangle, button" and
"right pointing triangle button". The gesture to relabel a button is a two
finger double tap and hold. Once focused on the button you wish to relabel,
execute a two finger double tap, leaving your fingers pressed to the screen
after the second tap until you hear three tones and get the dialog box for
"alert, label element, text field, is editing" followed by an announcement of
the current label. For the up and down arrow keys, I just type "up" or "down".
There is a symbol for each arrow in the text box, but VoiceOver just can't
announce it." You may also want to re-label two of the buttons at the top of
the screen: "18 envelope, button" might be changed to "mail", and "44 shoebox,
button" might be changed to "saved items".

Here's the URL at the App Store:
. Text Writer by Tal Bereznitskey (free today, normally $1.99)
http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/text-writer/id417629724?mt=8

I believe the developer labeled the left and right arrow keys after I contacted
him via email. At least, this showed up in the November update for the app.

HTH. Cheers,

Esther

If you were going to get text writer, it is still free as of five minutes
ago.
