Hi, You can definitely erase your friend's info and get your data on the phone. Here's how.
Back up your old phone to either iTunes or iCloud before you start. That way, you'll have the very latest info on your new phone. To erase all the data on the new phone, go to Settings, choose General, then Reset, then the option to erase all data. YOu'll have to confirm a couple of times that you want to erase all the data. Once the phone restarts, you can turn on VoiceOver with triple-click Home. Go through the setup. At some point, you'll be asked whether you want to restore from an iTunes or iCloud backup or set it up as a new phone. Choose iTunes or iCloud, depending where you backed up your old phone. If it's backed up in iTunes, you'll need to connect the new iPHone to your computer to load the data. This will include your contacts and apps, and all your app data.
