BlankI'd say eight hours is about typically what I get from the Bose.
Having not gotten my hands on the big Jambox, I can't make a valid
comparison. The Bose plays a magnitude louder than the original Jambox
does, and is about the size of a hard cover book. It would appear that the
Jambox isn't quite as tall but might be a bit thicker.

When we use the Bose, we typically use it at high volumes using bluetooth.
I have not noticed any distortion, although it is certainly close only
because it is at such a high output level.

I have updated it once, but the update only resolved some purported
bluetooth pairing issues. If you pair it to more than one device, you need
to hold the Bluetooth button on the Bose in for a few seconds, then do the
pairing on the iPhone. It doesn't have any different sound modes as the
Jambox does, and there is no way to control the song selection nor talk on
the iPhone remotely from the Bose. The only buttons on the Bose are Power,
Aux, Bluetooth, Mute, Volume Down and Volume Up.

Steve, many thanks for that forward.

David Pogue of the NY Times did a comparison of the Jambox and Bose
SoundLink. Interestingly, he said the Jambox was much clearer and did not
distort at louder levels, but did sound a bit fuzzy when turned down, and
the SoundLink was just the opposite, performing better at lower levels.

Bose only has an 8-hour battery, but maybe 15 hours is a bit excessive. I
have not seen if the Bose has any of the sound augmentations, although I do
think I read you could do USB updates.

Then again, I have a pretty good Philips "Filio" I believe it is called. It
is a docking/charging speaker, though. I wonder about a bluetooth receiver
with a male stereo jack. I purchased one recently by Motorola, but music
sent to it via BT and then sent through a speaker sounds like the
synthesized stereo they used to attempt for old records made in mono. It was
sold as a BT phone solution, though, and not necessarily for quality music.
If anyone knows of something better, I might like to try that route first,
before spending several hundred dollars unnecessarily.
