My stepson was here tonight; he has an iPhone and is a real tech expert and he showed me what you just said about the insertion point. I also realized that I am used to hearing passwords because that is a Window-Eyes option. Sure wish it were a VO option, as I personally like monitoring them. Thanks.

If there is some text then each time you double tap, the insertion point will b moved from beginning to end and back again. I am not sure why you aren't able to type in the field though, sometimes VO doesn't make the clicking sounds reliably when in a password field but just trust that it is working.
