My stepson was here tonight; he has an iPhone and is a real tech expert and
he showed me what you just said about the insertion point. I also realized
that I am used to hearing passwords because that is a Window-Eyes option.
Sure wish it were a VO option, as  I personally like monitoring them.

If there is no text in the edit field already, each time  you double tap
you'll hear VO say insertion point at end of text. If there is some text
then each time you double tap, the insertion point will b moved from
beginning to end and back again.  I am not sure why you aren't able to type
in the field though, sometimes VO doesn't make the clicking sounds reliably
when in a password field but just trust that it is working.
