Hi, If you are on the screen with a compose button, just double tap that, then find the text field that has the word "to" before it and double tap and put in the person's name, etc. Then, find the spot that says "Sent from textfree" and double tap to get it in edit mode. That is the default signature unless you changed it. Then, the send button is kind of where it is on regular text messages, above the o and p, kind of.
Very odd that your phone rings. I could only get it to ring if I turned off the cell data and only had Wi-Fi running, then rebooted the phone. I've sent a note to them, but I won't hold my breath for a reply since, as you point out, it is free, which often means less performance/support.
