Hi, Could you tell your friend: you need to say the punctuation quite faster than your words. For example, if you tell Siri to dictate, "hello world!", then your need to say, "hello world exclamation point" with the words "exclamation point" being spoken faster than other words.
If you'd like, I'd be happy to do a small tutorial on Siri's dictation feature - it'll take me about a week, as I'm upgrading to a larger capacity 4S this weekend.
