Thanks everyone who tried to help. You said I could download and listen to books on Audible from the app. What books (not from Audible.com? How do I get to them. Thanks for the tips on Safari.

You can clear everything in it with the "Clear" button next to it and just type in any web address as you would do on the computer, e.g. google.com or audible.com, you don't need the www. Keep in mind that if you access websites from your iPhone you will automatically get a version of the site which is optimized for mobile devices and they are often simpler than on the computer. As for Audible, you can download and listen to books with the app, but if you want to browse the catalogue and buy new books, you have to do it either with Safari on your iPhone or whichever web browser you use on the computer.
