The recommended way is to go to settings/general/usage; all the apps are 
listed there, or there's a button to list all apps if they aren't.  double 
tap on the one you want, and as well as get all the details, you get a 
delete app button.

You can do it more directly right on the main screen of course, but you get 
to follow the plot better this way.
