Regarding your second question, if you double tap the unlock button, the passcode entry screen appears and you will find an Emergency icon in either the lower left or lower right corner of the screen. I wondered about this as well until I discovered where the emergency icon was. This is also assuming you have a passcode set. If not, then I'm not sure where the emergency icon appears. This is on my iPhone 6.
