Auto correct will take a word you misspell and try to change it to what it guesses you meant to say. Predictive typing, on the other hand, looks at what you're typing as you type it. It makes a guess about what word you are trying to type, letting you tap the word once you see it. I've been able to write several words in a row just by typing a letter or two, then double tapping the correct word.
