Molly, You used to be able to browse the Audible website from the app and buy books. This feature and this feature alone is no longer available. You can still download books you purchased directly to your iPhone with the Audible app just as always, the only difference is that you have to buy the books first on audible.com either using the computer and whichever web browser you use or by using your iPhone and Safari.
I personally prefer to use my PC and Internet Explorer in any case to browse books, read the publisher's summary or reviews, then I add the books to my cart, check out and as soon as that is done, even 2 seconds later, I pick up my iPhone, open the app, refresh my library and the book I just purchased is in the "Not Downloaded" category and I can download it.
