Whenever I tried converting books in to epub to read on iBooks, I found more pages in the book than there are paragraphs in it. I found it really a worthless exercise to convert to epub. May be some books convert better than others?

If you want to jump through a bunch of hoops to say the $19.99 you could use the XML file from the zip file and then use Stanza to create an ePub version and read it in iBooks, or something else. You could even convert it to simple .txt and read it in a number of apps. If you are not familiar with Stanza, I'd search the archives of this group. There are detailed instructions how to convert Bookshare books using Stanza.
