Actually, the iPhone microphones are pretty good. I think you'll find that a lot of recorders may do the same thing. I certainly have been impressed with the microphone in my iPhone 5 five and iPhone 6. It is possible that the recorder in question has some noise filtering going on, but I would say they will mostly do a pretty good job with this.
