Fingers, Notes are different sizes and I have fingers to feel this. Like I said, Grandad just slid note between fingers and checked how far up a note came, to identify it. But my old grandad, who was also blind, used to slide them between two fingers and feel how far up his forefinger the note came. He just got good at it. The banks here used to provide a plastic thing with steps up one edge representing the different note sizes too.
