Winston Chen now says that the problem of partially saved files has indeed been reported, so he must have received enough email about it to warrant investigation. I am in a conversation with him now in which he has asked me how I save files. I am experimenting with closing the app right after entering a character, pressing "home" and then closing the app via the app switcher, and finally by closing the app via the app switcher without pressing "home" once. I have noticed that partial saves are more common with very short files of, say, ten or so bytes. Winston tells me he will continue to look for the source of this bug. Evidently, this problem is proving elusive and vexing.
