Sometimes before voiceover announces the battery is low you get a clue it is low because when you try to use the remote there is a loss of range as well as a definite hesitation between the time you push the button and the time the Apple TV responds. If you end up pushing the buttons four or five times to get the TV to respond and you know for sure you are aiming at the right spot, then chances are that the battery is getting low.
