Sometime, it takes forever for a book to download. I have found that if I
use my laptop to visit the bard site and select the books I want to download
that if I add those books to my wish list instead, I can be downloading a
book wile reading another.

This may sound like a dumb question. Have you checked in settings within the
Bard app to confirm that you are signed to Bard?
