On the iPad, I usually double tap "Categories" (number 4 of the 6 buttons at
the bottom of the screen, listed from left to right). Then the search field
appears in the top right corner of the screen. You can navigate there with a
four finger tap in the top half of the screen, which will take you to the first
element of the screen -- the "Choose a Category" heading at the top center of
the screen, just below the status bar -- and then flick right to the search
field, double tap, and type in your search terms.
Double tapping any of the first four of the six buttons at the bottom of the
screen ("Featured", "Genius", "Top Charts", or "Categories") will bring up a
screen with a search field in the top right corner. Using the "Categories"
button (just above the home button and slightly to the right) or the "Genius"
button will give you the simplest navigation by saving you a flick or two to
get to the search field. Unlike the case for the iPhone or iPod Touch, the
iPad search field only extends about a quarter of the way across the width of
the iPad screen from the top right corner. Once you type in the search terms,
double tap the "Search" button that is to the right of the "l" key, about where
the "Return" or "Enter" key would be on a regular keyboard. The bottom row of
the iPad keyboard is like the iPhone keyboard, but to the right of the space
bar there is another "more numbers" key, and a "hide keyboard" key in the
bottom right corner where the "search" key in an iPhone keyboard is located.
To reach the "Search" key on an iPad keyboard you move vertically up the right
edge of the screen two rows from the "hide keyboard" key, first passing the
"shift" key and then reaching the "search" key.
