Hello Chris,

Actually, I think it is easier to select alternative Emoji skin tones in iOS
than it is on the Mac; but that's not here or there.

I suggest you try the following steps when using the Emoji keyboard--especially
when you know you're going to be using alternative skins.

By the way, just so you know, iOS will remember the last selected skin tone for
each Emoji.

Also, the steps below assume that you generally use Touch Typing Mode.

1.
Select the Emoji keyboard.

2.
Select the Tab area from which you wish to select an Emoji.

3.
Change to Standard typing mode.

4.
Place Focus on an Emoji that has alternative skin tones available; for example,
a runner.

5.
Now Single-finger, Double-tap and hold until you hear VoiceOver announce that
there are alternative characters available. Do not lift your finger off of the
keyboard but, rather, slide up just a bit and explore to either the left or
right until you land on your skin tone of choice.

6.
Raise your finger off of the keyboard to select the Emoji.

7.
When you're ready to return to the standard keyboard, switch back to Touch
Typing mode.

Good Luck and Enjoy,

Mark

Subject: emoji's skins

When working with the Emoji keyboard, does anyone know of an accessible way to
select a skin of a particular Emoji?
For example, if you try to choose the hands raised in celebration emoji, you
just get a sound, and then you are suppose to choose the particular skin of
that emoji you want. Without having an accessible way of accessing the skins,
then that would make some emoji's not available to voice over users.
So if anyone knows how to select skins of an emoji, please let us know!

Chris
