Keith, I have had a PC with small hard drive and for the past couple of
years I have had my iTunes music, etc. on a USB thumb drive. It has not been
a problem. I do music in MP3 format, so this gives me the advantage of being
able to pull that thumb drive and use it on another computer for playing or
managing music; not via iTunes because I don't know if you can have iTunes
on different machines and just switch the media between them. Perhaps so
though, if you have each copy of iTunes point to the same music folder.

Oh this is the normal USB port, too, not one of the USB3 or faster ports.

Eric

Subject: What are the merits and risks of putting iTunes Media Folder on a
USB Hard Drive?

HI,

I'm quickly running out of space on my PC's hard drive, and an encrypted
iphone backup tonight was limited by hard disk space.

I have a 2 TB My Passport that's not being used, and I'm thinking about
putting my iTuens Media Folder on that.

The only time I use my iTunes on my PC is for backup purposes.

What are the merits and risks of putting the iTunes Media folder on an
external hard drive?

Any advice on how to best do this, if at all, would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance, Keith
