Even if mine is on charge, I empty the app switcher every couple of days, and turn it completely off at least once a week. I notice a slowdown even on the 6 if I have a lot of apps open, once had 35 of them there, I don't care what they say, emptying it occasionally does help the speed of Voiceover anyway.
