I had a look at the Bitmo headphones with speaker Richard mentioned and on the
Amazon page came across a link for another headset which has the same feature
than the Bitmo, but instead of flipping the earcups around to put them into
speakermode these have a switch. They are actually made by Thermaltake and are
called "Luxa2 Lavi S". They are almost double the price at $60, but they also
get much better reviews with 4.5 Stars out of 5 from 86 reviewers, 76% are 5
Stare and 12% are 4 Star with only 5% each 3 Star and 2 Star and 2% 1 Star. I
am almost tempted to buy these because this sounds like a great concept for a
blind person. Hang them around the neck in speakermode for when you are out and
about and need to hear what's going on around you and have a pair of good
sounding stereo headsets with mic for when you can use headphones.
On top of that the Luxa2 Lavi S can be used in bluetooth mode with up to 30
hours of playback time (only 3 hours in speakermode) or you can use them wired.
I hope somebody buys one or the other and we'll get to hear some reviews from
the perspective of a blind user. Below are links for these on Amazon.com and
Amazon.ca, I also saw links when I did a Google search to Amazon.co.uk and
Amazon.de (the german Amazon page) so they are apparently widely available. In
Canada they are only $63 which is aolmost the same as in the US despite the
currently high US Dollar, but unfortunately after you add the $22 shipping that
the company that sells them on Amazon.ca is asking for, you could probably also
order them from Amazon.com. I think on the german Amazon they are the best deal
at just under 47 Euros.

Hi,
A coworker who is a mobility instructor just got some headphones from Amazon
that work quite well.
You can wear them as over the ear headphones, or put them around the back of
your neck and turn the speakers outward just under your ears on your shoulder
so you can hear them without having the surrounding sounds blocked.
Apparently, they are popular among skate boarders.
I think with shipping they came to about $37.00. They are called:

Ditmo® SD-288BT Over the ear Stereo Bluetooth Wireless Headphones and Speakers

HTH,
Richard

Subject: Blind Square

Hi Everyone,

I have recently started using Blind Square. I think it is a great app.

I cannot use a standard Bluetooth ear piece due to my hearing aids. I would
prefer not to use the Bluetooth in my hearing aids while traveling. There are
several seconds where traffic sounds are blocked out when information is either
being updated via Bluetooth or some other type of communication is going on
between my hearing aids and the phone. I'm wondering whether there is a speaker
that can be purchased to work with the phone similar to the one for the Trekker
Breeze. Any help would be very much appreciated.

Thank you,

Lynda
