This is fairly simple, I assume you have all your videos/movies in one folder on your external hard drive, let's assume it's called "Movies and Videos". Now open iTunes, go to "File" and "Add Folder". Browse to the "Movies and Videos" folder on your external hard drive, then click "Select" and all the videos and movies in the folder will be added to the Movies library in iTunes, but the physical copy remains on your external drive. I do the same thing with Movies and Audio Books because my laptop only has a 120 Gig Solid State Drive and the Lord of the Rings trilogy in high definition I bought from iTunes alone is over 30 Gig. You can, by the way, do this with any media, music, ringtones, audio books etc. As long as the files have the proper iTunes file extentions they will be put in the correct library/category in iTunes.
