Update: if you hold your finger steady on the follow button with the finger of one hand, turn voiceover off, tap once, then turn voiceover back on, you have a chance of getting the profile. Doing this the right way is key, because unfortunately this is an exact science, not an ideal situation. I get inconsistent results, but was able to view profiles.
