It has been a long time since I used iRinger, but I seem to remember at that
time you had to change the file extension to .m4r. Maybe this is automatic
now, or I might be thinking of something else.

Subject: RE: How do I sync Ring Tones that are on my PC to my iPhone?

Kevin,

Two main rules for ringtones: files must have the M4R extension and
ringtones can't be longer than 40 seconds

Now, here is what I would suggest:

1. Close iTunes, then make a temporary folder called Tones or
Ringtones maybe in your Music or Documents folder, now copy all ringtones
from both folders in your iTunes Media folder into this one folder. This
ensures you have a backup copy of all your ringtones. I would also add the
one tone you said is in your Documents folder.

2. Now delete the 2 folders from your iTunes Media folder

3. Now copy all ringtones in your newly created backup folder to the
"Automatically Add to iTunes" folder

4. Open iTunes, this should automatically create one folder with all
ringtones which are compatible, if you have MP3 ringtones among your
ringtones I believe they will not get moved and I believe they remain in the
Automatically add to iTunes folder. The good thing is that it will also add
all these ringtones to your Tones library at the same time, you can now go
to Tones in iTunes, listen to all of them and maybe delete the ones you
don't like.

5. When you are done connect your iPhone, click on the iPhone button
in iTunes and find Tones in the treeview which starts with Summary.

6. Tab and make sure you check the checkbox "Sync Tones", then either
check to "Sync All Tones" or "Sync Selected Tones". If you do the latter,
tab to the list of tones, arrow through the list and check the ones you
want.

7. When you are done tab to Apply and all your tones will sync and
should now be available on your phone.

As far as the physical location of iTunes media is concerned (music, movies,
ringtones etc.) it is important to remember that it really doesn't matter
where you have the file saved. The important thing is that you tell iTunes
where it is and you do this either by putting the file in the Automatically
Add to iTunes folder or manually when you go to the file menu and select the
option "Add File to Library" or "Add Folder to Library". When you do this
iTunes basically creates the link/shortcut to a file or links/shortcuts to a
group of files in a folder. When you see your listing of songs in iTunes or
your list of ringtones or movies, this is simply the Id3 tag information
contained in the file and information telling iTunes where the file is. It's
basically like a shortcut in Windows like, for example, the Jaws icon on
your desktop. That is not the actual Jaws executable file, but simply a
shortcut pointing to that shortcut. You could go ahead and rename it to "My
Screenreader" and it would still work just fine and the same applies in
iTunes. You can click "Get Info" or Control+I when you are on a song or
ringtone and edit the name, artist, album and all that to whatever you want,
but it will continue to point to the same song or ringtone and only if you
delete the actual file or move it to a different folder on your computer
will that link be broken and iTunes will no longer be able to find it. The
listing will still be there, but if you try to play it it won't work and
you'll find the item preceeded by the word "Invalid" next time you arrow
over it.

Sieghard

Subject: How do I sync Ring Tones that are on my PC to my iPhone?

Hi.

I'm using Windows 10 with the latest iTunes. In my iTunes folder structure,
there are two folders: Ringtones and Tones. The Ringtones folder has over
400 files in it, but they're not syncing with my iPhone. Do I need to move
them to a different location to sync them with my iPhone? Also, I have a
ring tone that I created, and it's in my documents folder. I don't want to
lose it. What do I do to get all these nice ring tones onto my iPhone?

Thanks in advance for help.
