I am noticing the same thing. I really miss the email counter when you're reading the unread messages and read messages when there's a multi message thread. Also starting in 8.4, the songs position in a playlist are no longer spoken as you scroll the playlist or any other list for that matter. These items really make it easy to navigate long lists and it's too bad that they're missing.
