Hi Jennifer,

Theoretically you should be able to downgrade by connecting to iTunes and use
the “Check for Updates” option. You would first need to find an iOS 8.4.1 IPSW
file for your device and download it, then open iTunes with your device
connected, go to your device area and tab to the Check for Updates button and
press Shift+Enter, browse to your downloaded iPS W file and your iPhone should
be downgraded without the need for a rstore of a backup. I am saying “should”
because not always do things go smoothly and you may have to end up putting
your iPhne into recovery mode and to do a restore and then of course youwould
need to restore from a backup. Now, since you have to to this via iTunes
anyways, why not make an encrypted backup or at least a normal iTunes backup,
this will backup all text messages.

Here is a link for a website where you can find your phone’s IPSW file:

http://www.iphonehacks.com/download-iphone-ios-firmware

The following link was posted by Richard a couple of days ago and it describes
2 methodes you can downgrade, what I described above is method 2 which is not
the recommended method, but which the author wrote worked for them and it has
worked for me in the past:

http://www.iphonehacks.com/2015/09/how-to-downgrade-ios-9.html

Good luck,

Sieghard

Will I lose all of my text messages if I go back? They're the only thing that
icloud won't back ups.

I haven't heard Apple has pulled it yet, but they soon will. So be quick before
they stop signing it or pull it.

Is it still possible to go back to ios 8.whatever without a jailbroken phone?

Interestingly enough iOS 8.4.1 has been out for several weeks and my usual
source for IPSW files, <http://ipswdownloader.com/> http://IPSWDownloader.com,
stops at version 8.3, version 12F70.

I’m sure other websites have it, but I wonder why this one doesn’t.

Hi Neal, this won't be possible for very much longer. So if you're going to do
it, you'll want to do it without any delay. If Apple follows its usual
practice, they will soon stop signing iOS 8.4.1, so with the exception of a
pretty complex process in jailbroken devices, it won't be an option.

The short answer to your question is that during this window, if you can find
the file with a .IPSW extension for iOS 8.4.1 for your specific iPhone model,
you can install it by pressing shift+Space-bar on the "restore" button in
iTunes. Navigate to that file, run it, wait, and eventually you'll have 8.4.1
back. Hopefully you have kept an encrypted backup in iTunes of your phone in
its 8.4.1 state and you can restore from that. If you have not, an iCloud
restore should be a much lengthier but feasible restore.

But I can't stress enough, if Apple sticks to its usual behaviour, these
instructions will stop working real soon.

Hi, I don’t think I need to do this, but just to make sure, I searched for
things on the web and saw articles about how to down grade a beta version back
to version 8. Is it the same path to take when downgrading from the released
version? Are there any simple listing of steps that anyone has found that may
be more easy to contemplate than some of the ones I have found?

Thanks for all help.

Neal
