I have a 4S, and VoiceOver doesn't announce the number of messages in a
thread before I open that thread. I don't consider this a bug though,
since I think this behavior changed for sighted users as well. I think
it's just a change in the feature and not a bug. That doesn't mean Apple
won't change it back.
I haven't had the issue where the roter won't stick to words.
I haven't seen VoiceOver hang when replying to a message, but I may not
have replied to a message since I upgraded to IOS 9.0.1. I do have the
issue where VoiceOver stops talking if I use a wired headset while on a
call. I need to read up on this one, but I've been rebooting my phone to
get VoiceOver to come back talking again. I need to see if there's an
easier way to get speech back after I run into this bug.
I also have the problem where my phone doesn't vibrate when I get a
call. I've missed quite a few calls since I upgraded.
I doubt most of these bugs are specific to the IOS 4S or any specific
model. Some of them strike some people and not others though, and until
Apple gets to root cause, we may never know why. They may be settings
related as well.
I'd suggest closing everything on your phone and restarting at some
point after the upgrade or after you get your new phone. If you're
upgrading yourself, I'd also suggest following Sieghard's advice. It may
not be necessary, but who knows how many of the issues we're seeing on
some phones and not others are related to the different ways people have
upgraded their phones.
