In light of the ongoing issues with Down cast’s audio playback I have been experimenting with the Overcast app. It does not suffer from the same issue of losing playback focus while the app is running in the background. However I find that many of the settings I liked in Downcast are not in Overcast. Do you have to upgrade it to get the full complement of settings? For example I can't figure out how to get all my podcasts to update automatically. This must be possible but it is not obvious how to do so.
I would still like to support Downcast but if the audio playback issue is not addressed soon I will move on. I encourage any Downcast fans to contact the developer about the playback problem. He does not think there is an issue. Make sure you make it clear that you use Voiceover since this bug may only happen when Voiceover and Downcast are running at the same time. Since both Overcast and Voice Dream Reader do not have the audio playback control issue it points to a bug in Down cast’s code and not IOS 9.
