Six dot is default on iPhones and iPods; eight dot is only for iPads. I'm not 
sure if it's for iPhone 6Plus units or not, but I'm thinking not.

Explore mode lets you move one or more fingers around the screen and hear what 
dots you touch. Just put one or more fingers down, leave them for a couple 
seconds, and there you go. Lift them all to leave this mode.

Calibration is something you generally don't need to worry about, but if you 
want to try it, just hit dots 4 5 6, then 1 2 3, right in a row. This seemed to 
help more in iOS8's early days, but I haven't had to do it in a very long time.
