I had to do some homework and put some things into my phone. Here's what it was.

Hi, Ms. Mueller:

From the main screen, click on "Settings" and when that comes up,
scroll
down to Mail, Contacts, Calendars. In there, click on your account under the list of accounts (you may only have the one). That brings up the general settings for that account. On that page, go to the section "Outgoing Mail Server" which should have "SMTP" under it, along with the name of the server "mail.smart2.net". Click on that, and on the next page, the "mail.smart2.net" should be listed under "Primary Server" -- click on
that, and then make the following changes, if necessary:

Host Name = mail.smart2.net
User Name = [email protected]
Password = your password, but please remember that what you thought was a
"star" was an "at-sign"
The "Use SSL" slider should be slid left to the off position.
Authentication should be set to "MD5 Challenge-Response"
Server Port should be 587.

Please let me know if you are able to get it to work after ensuring these
are the settings.

I didn't use a single keyboard to put the information into the phone. I just used touch typing and those virtual keyboards on the phone. So now it works. I won't let me use a keyboard, until I'm damd good at touch typing.
