He sounds a lot better on the Mac. I would imagine that some compromises had
to be made because of less RAM and processor power in the I devices.

I have the Alex voice on my iPhone 5s and my iPad Air, I went back to the
standard voice. Alex sounds a bit jirky to me. They made much to do about
how natural sounding he is and you can even hear him take breaths at
approprate places. He also takes up the most room of any of the voices. In
my opinion, he just didn't meet his billing. Try him out if you like. The
worst that can happen is you decide he sucks like I did and delete him.
