There may be another way that I'm not aware of, but this is what I do.
I choose Move. I am then presented with a list of folders. I double
tap on trash. And that's where it goes.

Later on, when I want to delete the trash in the Trash folder. I go to
page that says Mailboxes as it's heading. I swipe right until I hear
it say "Accounts Heading." I then double tap on the account I am
looking for. I double tap on the trash folder and it opens. On the
upper right of the phone, there is now an edit button. I double tap
this. Once I do that, there is a "delete all" button on the bottom
left of the phone. I double tap that and all trash is gone.

Like I said, there may be a better way. If so, I hope to also learn.
But this is how I handle gmail.
