Hi Rick, I don't of course, know why Apple decided not to keep the optical output and agree that having the option to use it is nice, but "lots of folks" is probably a tiny number when you look at all of the people who have an Apple TV. In any case, it definitely is like Apple, they feel it's not required so they just take it away and by doing so basically force their way of thinking onto the customer. This goes way back to Steve Jobbs who always felt that what people wanted was irrelevant and that it was up to Apple and, during those days up to him, to come out with products and then tell people that these products were what they needed.
