Hello Sandy, You know, the simplest solution is for you to use separate Apple IDs.
If you're concerned about purchased items from the App Store, you can turn on Family Sharing and be in business. Regardless of how often either of you use iTunes on a computer, separate IDs offer the best integrity against problems such as what you have described.
