I almost never read the news. But, I have noticed since I did
the update its there. I would go into settings, news, and
configure it the way you would like. But I think they do
disappear after a while.

Here in the UK we appear to have "The News" now that 9.1 is out.

very interesting and useful to have it given to you just seconds

asking ... but it seems there's no way to go in and read all,
skipping
over those you don't want and getting them marked as read.
Do they disappear, eventually, for new ones, or how does it work?
What's the best way to read them, take any of the options
available and
then have the rest out of the way?
