Hello,

 

Many are regretting Apple taking away the optical audio out port which was
on previous Apple TV's. I just read an article which mentions a device which
can extract the audio from HDMI and send it to a receiver or amplifier
either via digital optical (Toshiba Link or "Toslink") or analogue RCA
connection.

It is my understanding that you can still connect an HDMI cable from the
extracter to your TV as well and simply change modes to pass the HDMI signal
through to your TV if you want to do so.

Note that I don't own the device and cannot vouch for how well it works.
Hopefully somebody will post a review if they decide to buy it and give it a
try. I assume since it comes from Amazon that it would have a generous
return policy should it not work as advertised.
