I would suggest listening to David Woodbridge’s demonstration podcast. He describes the physical layout of the remote in detail. The long button is a volume control, and with the lightning port facing towards you, you have the touchpad at the top, then a row of three buttons, the top being menu, the middle is the Siri button, and then the bottom is play/pause.
