DirecTV is a subscription television service that comes in via satellite as opposed to coaxial cable or fiber optic cable as used by most other television services in the USA. DirecTV has an app that lets you do things like search upcoming programming and set shows to record using your iPhone while away from home. I believe you can even stream programs to watch on your device using it although I'm not sure why anyone would want to. The box that houses the hardware for DirecTV and other cable services is called a DVR box which Stands for "Digital Video Recorder." A DVR is basically a VCR that uses a hard drive instead of video tapes.
