I have only looked through the site a few times. It did use U.S. weights and measures, as I recall. There are tons of products listed; not just food products.

Would that be only for goods and products available on the US market? In addition, it also provides, potentially life-saving, allergy and drug interaction warnings. They mention a bar code scanner, but I didn't check to see if that is an app or a device. For recognition apps I'd start with Camfind (free), then Tap Tap See (you have to buy picture credits) and you could of course try apps like Be My Eyes or CrowdViz which connect you with a sighted person via Facetime (CrowdViz gives you some free credits, after that you also have to pay a small amount). Then there are actual barcode apps like Red Laser (free) or Digit-Eyes (paid) where you have to find the barcode, the app scans it and compares it to a database of barcodes online and hopefully it will come up with a match. Lastly, you could try something like KNFB Reaer to actually recognize the text on a package, but it often does not work that great because the text may be difficult for OCR to recognize because of colours, pictures and other clutter. The thing is that once you know exactly what the product is, you can often find it on the manufacturer's website and get more information such as ingredients or other instructions.
