Sieghard,

Something is wrong then, because that is how I configured my phone but when
there is an incoming call, vo will announce the incoming call followed by
the instruction "double tap to answer the call" but after double tapping,
I'll be asked to enter the lock code. The ringing period is so short to
complete the process of double tapping and entering code. May be there is
something wrong. Well, let me get the latest update and try again.

Thanks,

Godwin

Hi Godwin,

No reason to wait for that feature as it exists and works fine.

Check "Settings", "Notification Centre" and then make sure you have Skype
set to be in the Notification Centre. Then flick down and make sure "Show in
lock screen" is on. If you do this (I assume you are using iOS 5) then you
will be able to answer Skype calls when the phone is locked just like a
phone call. If somebody calls the notification will be on the lock screen
with a "Slide to Answer" option which you can of course double tap on.

Good luck,

Sieghard

Hi Sieghard,

This is really cool! One other feature I'm anxiously waiting for is to be
able to answer an incoming call while the phone is locked.

This is the biggest problem I have with Skype on the iPhone.

Subject: Skype 4.1 update and my 5 Cents worth on bluetooth and USB headsets

Hello Listers,

I just noticed that this morning a Skype update showed up and I wanted to
provide a bit of feedback and let everybody know that is is perfectly save
to update, Voiceover accessibility seems to be unchanged and there are a few
minor improvements. Here are the items mentioned for this update.

What's New in Version 4.1:

Send and receive photos
Updated privacy setting
Fixed bug related to Bluetooth and calls
Minor visual improvements across the app
Other minor bug fixes

These are my observations regarding the above:

Send and receive photos: I did not test this.

Updated privacy setting: When I first opened Skype on my iPhone after the
update a message popped up telling me that my Skype contacts were kept
securely on their servers so I can access them from all my devices and I had
an option to accept or decline this. This of course is nothing new as this
was the case before, except it seems now you do have the option to tell them
that you don't want your Skype contacts kept on their server in which case,
I assume, they will be kept on your iPhone or your computer or whatever
device you use at the time and if you add somebody on your computer this
person will not show up on your iPhone unless you add them there manually as
well. For me that is a no brainer, I want my contacts to show up no matter
which one of my computers I use or if I use my iPhone so I accepted this.

Fixed bug related to Bluetooth and calls: Somebody posted about this
recently since you had to manually switch to bluetooth headset each time you
made a new call whereas a call would automatically be routed to a wired
headset as soon as you plugged it in. Well, this is now fixed, I made a few
calls to the Skype Test Call service and while the initial tone and the
ringing was on the earpiece, the call switched to my bluetooth headset as
soon as it connected along with Voiceover so you had good access to any
controls. When I tapped the End Call button the call disconnected and
Voiceover stayed on the bluetooth headset as it should. I also manually
switched to speakerphone and the call along with Voiceover went to
speakerphone, no more having the call on Speakerphone and Voiceover on the
earpiece where it's hard to hear it. Only drawback maybe is that Voiceover
can be clearly heard by the other party, my test recording made that clear
so ideally one could maybe say Voiceover should remain on whichever headset,
wired or bluetooth, is connected when switching to speakerphone, but of
course this would also mean it would come through the earpiece if you don't
have a headset connected.

As for the minor visual improvements and bug fixes I only noticed one thing
which always bothered me and that is that after you would hang up a call you
would end up in the Messages tab for whichever person you were calling not
in their Contact. This now has been fixed, each time I hung up from the
Skype Test Call I was back in the Skype Test Call Contact where I could
either start another call or tap the Back button at the top left to get back
to the contact list I had selected before, in this case the "Online
Contacts".

In short, it's a good update, not a ton of improvements and new features but
definitely worthwhile to update and if you are using a bluetooth headset a
lot this should make you happy although I don't know why you would want to
use a bluetooth headset since the call quality is sucks compared to a wired
headset or a USB headset on a computer. I tried all sorts of good bluetooth
headsets over the years both on the iPhone and on my laptop and if you do a
Skype Test call the voice always sounds muffled and unclear. I just bought a
Logitech H390 USB headset for $39.99 from NCIX.com and this is from their
"Cleartalk" family of headsets and it is absolutely amazing. It is super
comfortable, the call quality is fantastic and my Windows 7 laptop
recognized it fine, installed the device drivers, the in-line volume and
mute work and the headset is super comfortable to wear. It's an
over-the-head design with nicely padded larger earpieces that sit on the ear
so your ear is not totally enclosed.

Regards,

Sieghard
