Hi. I had to get sighted help with this. When the stand is unfolded, there is a tab at the top. You fold this tab down towards the cutout in the middle of the stand, and it fits into this center cutout, forming a triangle and securely locking the shelf into place. The section which contains the tape and the hole for the camera is the shelf. Go to the hhome page and listen to the video. This is a sturdy stand, once it is assembled. You have to turn the iPhone around so the camera is closest to you to use it, but it works. If you need more help, call me. My number is 512-3458709.
