Yes, and it's very, very frustrating. What's going on is that there is a volume 
slider in the app, and voiceover focus is being shifted to that every time you 
raise your volume. The screen is also being refreshed. So you hear the 
voiceover sound letting you know that that's going on. The easiest way I found 
to deal with this problem is to have sounds in the rotor, which I do anyway, 
and turn them off when listening to audible. I also put focus on the play Slash 
pause button, then mute speech. If I want to do anything that means I need to 
pause in order to pay attention to something else for a second, I can just 
perform a two-finger double-tap, and I don't hear VoiceOver. I can also adjust 
the volume without VoiceOver Reading the slider or making noise. Hope this
