Well, the answer seems to be yes and no. I have been using the 3rd generation
Apple TV with Netflix just fine. I have been using one of those little
converter boxes that takes an HDMI signal and outputs it as RCA to the stereo.
Now whether that fools Netflix into thinking that you actually do have a video
signal or not I'm not sure, but the converter box works fine. Should something
change in future, I did buy a small DVD/TV that the Apple TV can plug into. I
mainly bought it though so I could play the handful of dvds that will never be
on Netflix, because they are rare or non-commercial. Anyway, I hope that helps.

Generation Apple TV. Once upon a time, I looked up the differences between it
and the third generation. It seemed they all had to do with video, so I wasn't
interested. However, it seems that there may be some things available on the
third that are not available on the second. And I have one really important
question which, if this has changed, would make me buy a third GEN, since I
really don't want to forth Gen. With my second generation, you have to have a
video signal present for things like Netflix. You can't just play it through
the stereo. There must be a TV present. Is that true for the third-generation
as well?
