A programmable thermostat is a set and forget kind of thing anyway. The only time I have to deal with it is on the rare occasions that I have to change the batteries. if I'm curious as to what the temp is, simply pressing a button is a lot easier than firing up the phone, opening an app, etc. But for some I guess it can be kind of fun to see just how many things you can do with your phone. IMHO, keeping things simple is in the eyes of the beholder. Accessing my thermostat, from a smart phone I already have and which I already know how to use, seems simpler to me than having to walk up and controal a talking thermostat which will have it's own unique interface. If I wanted simple, I probably wouldn't have gotten a smart phone. Now that I have one, I'm going to use it for everything I can that will make my life simpler.
