Candy, I phoned Apple Support and discovered a solution to this problem. As long as the Music app is open, the song or album last played is remembered. In this case, closing a session by pressing the "Pause" button and then the "Home" button saves the user's place provided the app remains active in the App Switcher. Sometimes, the simplest solutions are the most elusive. <grin>
