Christina,

Unfortunately, those of us who learned the original Fleksy app later renamed
Fleksy VO have to adjust our thinking somewhat to get comfortable with the
Fleksy Keyboard. I think you should keep trying because I'm becoming more
convinced that we can be productive with this keyboard.

I'll address each of your issues in a numbered list.

1. If you're typing with the Fleksy spacebar keyboard, the button at the
bottom leftmost position is the numbers button labeled with a 123 and
touching it once will switch the keyboard from letters to numbers and back
again. When numbers are displayed, this key becomes a letters keyboard key
labeled ABC. While numbers are still displayed, pressing the shift key which
is immediately above the numbers/letters button will open the symbols
keyboard. I think this behavior is the same as with the iOS standard
keyboard.

2. The minimal Fleksy keyboard has a shift button at the bottom leftmost
position and a backspace button at the bottom rightmost position and these
keys were not present in the original Fleksy app. Note that Fleksy/VO
sometimes doesn't announce the backspace key as you move slowly around the
keyboard doing manual input but will simply state the key erased when the
backspace is executed. I also inadvertently hit both the shift and backspace
keys when typing with the minimal Fleksy keyboard and think it's just going
to take additional practice to unlearn how we typed with the original Fleksy
in order to get good with this new one.

3. When using the minimal keyboard, a quick single finger swipe right on the
shift key in the bottom leftmost position should switch between the letters
and numbers keyboards. When in the numbers keyboard, a quick single finger
swipe down should switch between the numbers and symbols keyboards.
Sometimes the keyboard loaded is inconsistent so you might have to keep
swiping right until you get to the one you want. Fleksy/VO has been
consistently identifying the loaded keyboard for me although sometimes it
doesn't immediately switch back to letters from numbers. Another point is if
you do a quick single finger swipe left on the backspace key located at the
bottom rightmost position of the minimal keyboard, your Emoji keyboard
should open. If it does, the bottom leftmost key on it should return you to
the letters keyboard when you double tap it. Also note that the input of
emoji symbols works a bit differently with the Fleksy keyboard than with the
standard iOS keyboard using touch typing. With Fleksy, you can swipe around
on the various emoji keys and lift to hear them announced without their
actually being entered. It takes a single finger double tap to record the
emoji which has focus or a split tap to do so. I actually like this behavior
better than how the iOS keyboard does it.

4. You've identified another one of the Fleksy keyboard bugs or VoiceOver
inconsistencies as I call them. When doing manual input slowly one letter at
a time as we often do with a new word or a proper name, the Fleksy keyboard
more times than not will announce it as a capital letter regardless if you
have your settings to identify case correctly as it sounds like you do. The
good news is that Fleksy is entering the correct case even if it is
announcing it incorrectly and we're just going too have to get used to this
anomaly. Fleksy also consistently capitalizes the first letter of a word in
a new sentence provided this setting is turned on.

5. Fleksy should get better at guessing your words the more you use it and I
also urge you to often add the words not identified correctly to your Fleksy
dictionary via a single finger swipe up after input. The more complete your
Fleksy dictionary, the better it will be at guessing the correct word.

6. If you've turned off the setting to show accented versions of all
letters, this should help avoid that issue as you do manual input.
Unfortunately, the letter e as well as a couple of others have accented
versions which will pop up if you linger on these keys while doing manual
input. All I can offer here is to develop a procedure to watch out for this
and to use your single finger swipe left to delete an erroneous entry often.
And this also happens to me quite often too.

Try not to get discouraged but continue to practice with the Fleksy
keyboard. Also, anyone running into problems should post them here so we can
develop the documented methodology to make this keyboard work for us.

Subject: Problems with Fleksy number/symbols layout

Hi,

I am having all kinds of problems with the Fleksy third party keyboard app.
I really don't know why I am bothering. I guess it's because I loved loved
loved the stand alone Fleksy keyboard and I so badly want to experience that
same ease of typing.

When I am trying to touch type in Fleksy, I keep engaging the numbers and
symbols layout. This is highly frustrating because I keep doing it even in
minimal mode layout and I don't even know how I am making it happen. Then I
can't figure out how to get back to the letter layout. Also, voice Over
announces each letter that I type as a capital letter no matter what. It's
frustrating because I can't figure out if I accidentally hit the shift
button or not. I keep having to check and see if shift is selected or not. I
also made sure that in settings the keyboard will reflect uppercase and
lowercase letters. Also, how do I avoid hitting the shift or delete key. The
shift key was never a factor with the stand alone fleksy keyboard. I still
cannot type one complete sentence in a reasonable amount of time. I am
significantly slower on the Fleksy keyboard than on the native iOS keyboard.
Fleksy rarely guesses my words correctly so I must be way way off. Fleksy
was 90% accurate at guessing what I wanted to type in the Fleksy stand
alone app. Also, when I try to feel my way around the keyboard and lift my
finger off of the screen to type a letter I get the letters with accents
even though I have this turned off in the settings.
