If it shows the Day Ticker, then you don't have the month view. If you would rather have the month view, touch, but don't tap, on the day ticker, and swipe down with three fingers and you should have the month and year at the top with the month calendar. Also, there is an issue for some when flicking through the events. It is better to slide your finger down rather than to flick left or right.
