Well said, Richard, I agree that the Seeing Eye app is very good especially now
that you can add your own custom points of interest. It provides the most
information and as far as I know is still the only app which gives you
intersection details like "4-way" or "3-way" along with the directions the
streets run. However, I think Apple Maps has evolved nicely as well and if you
do want a route and use Apple Maps and turn on "Tracking with Headings" it also
automatically reads out cross-streets and it works quite well. One thing I like
although this isn't strictly Apple Maps and you can use this with any other GPS
app running is the fact that if I want to know where I am right now I can just
press the SIRI button on my headset and ask SIRI "What is my current location"
and it will answer with the address where you are at either an exact address or
a range of house numbers, but it still is very useful.
If somebody has the funds then I think having Blindsquare and the Seeing-Eye
app is ideal and of course Apple Maps is already there on the phone and one can
download Google Maps as it is a free app.
You can also always start with Apple Maps to see h ow well it meets your needs
and also download Google Maps to compare and then think of buying apps like
Blindsquare and the Seeing-Eye app.

Regards,
Sieghard

The best GPS app is the one that works best for you in your situation and
location.
It is truly a matter of preference, and travel style, etc.
Some would say that Sendero's Seeing Eye GPS is the best, and it is pretty
amazing, but it also costs the most.
You can subscribe for roughly $70 per year, or $130 for three years, or buy it
once under the name Seeing Eye GPS XT, for $300.
Then, there are the free Google Maps or MapQuest, or the built-in Apple Maps.
Those are all turn-by-turn GPS apps.
If you mainly want something to identify streets and points of interest for
orientation, Blind Square is very good. Or Ariadne GPS, and quite a few more.

Perhaps if you said a little more what kind of travel help you want, it would
be easier to narrow down some suggestions.
