You only have to enter the passcode if you have turned off your phone. Since I never turn off my phone, I use the finger print all the time for unlocking the phone and purchases from the app store. I even let my bank use my recorded finger prints to get into my bank account. Of course, that is not recommended if anyone elses prints are recorded on your phone. In my case, I am the only one with recorded finger prints on my phone. I only have to enter my passcode when I re-start my phone once in a while.
